James Sutherland-Smith

Supporting Radiologist / Quality Assurance

James graduated as a veterinarian from Massey University, New Zealand in 2003. After completing a rotating small animal internship in Auckland, New Zealand he joined the Tufts Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine radiology residency program. In 2007 he became board certified Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Radiology.

After his residency he was appointed to the Tufts Faculty, serving as an assistant, and later associate professor in veterinary radiology. His responsibilities included clinical service in the small and large animal hospitals, training interns and residents, teaching veterinary students in the pre-clinical and clinical curriculum and performing clinical research. His research interests while varied, included novel CT and MRI imaging techniques, the clinical use of ultrasound, the imaging of nutritional disorders and the evaluation of new teaching methodologies.

James joined VetCT in 2018 as a full-time radiologist and contributes to the quality assurance program as a supporting radiologist. His main imaging interest is in CT and MRI imaging with a particular interest in companion animal emergency medicine, oncology and neuroimaging.
